INTRODUCTION
This comprehensive 18-month part-time graduate programme instils the candidate a range of theoretical, analytical, conceptual and functional skills in counselling. While understanding the underlying theories, the candidate is also able to apply appropriate counselling skills in different situations. This graduate programme enables the successful candidate to work effectively as a counsellor.

OBJECTIVES
- To enquire an intermediate knowledge of the major approaches to counselling and psychotherapy;
- To promote personal growth and self-awareness through self-exploration;
- To assess, evaluate and implement changes by applying counselling in theory and practice;
- To recognise and respect human diversity across populations, age groups, cultures and contexts;
- To be able to understand and practice within the guidelines and ethical codes of counselling.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
Besides introducing the academic aspect at graduate level, the Graduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology (GDICP) focuses on developing and enhancing candidates’ experiential knowledge and skills professionally through a holistic approach.

ASSESSMENT METHODS
The programme expects candidates to complete individual and/or group written assignments, and/or written examination, depending on the modular criteria. Candidates must also submit a written report upon fulfilling the compulsory practicum hours, to graduate from the course.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
For admission to the GDICP programme:
- Candidates should possess either an Advanced Diploma in Counselling Psychology or Advanced Diploma in Psychology offered by College of Allied Educators or,
- Degree in any discipline.
For applicants who do not meet the above entry requirements, on a case-by-case basis, they are advised to take on bridging modules FIRST, before enrolling into this course.
